She is one the of the youngest female video directors in Jamaica and her credits have been seen behind dancehall icons like Kip Rich, Danielle, Movado, Maka Diamond, Lady Saw, Bounty Killer and host of other artiste.
Julia Braham, 23, knew from an early age that she wanted to be a video director. However during her years in High School, she did nothing academically that would lead her in that direction. She started out writing for Youth Link, a teen publication but her desire was to director commercials and music videos.
“It something I’ve always wanted to do, I have been in all capacity of video set, I’ve been in videos, I was a production assistant as well, but I wanted to be a director. So I approached Kip Rich who made me do my first video production called “Kip Mus Carol” in November 2004.
Must video directors aspire to direct movies but not Julia Braham. “ I want to direct music video internationally but where movie is concern I have a short attention span. I can do one or two days and that is fine. Movies are not shot is that time period.”
There is not one particular artiste she wants to work with because she has gotten the chance to work with so many. Her easy going and laid back approach makes Julia one of the easiest directors to work with. Her team is her friends who have supported her from the beginning of her career and she extended much love to them.
Honored for the recognition by her peers and by the many artistes she has directed video for, Julia has done great work for the last 3 years she has been in the business. She welcomes the competition and thinks it only force other directors to make better videos. A motto she lives by is, “What ever you do, do it because you love it”.
The future is bright for this young director. She has a lot more videos and promise bigger and better thing to come.
